- Can both men and women join?
Yes, we are a mixed choir and sing in 4 parts - bass, tenor, alto and
- Can I try out the choir before I decide to join?
Yes, in fact your first night at the choir is exactly that. It lets you get a feel for the music, enjoy the atmosphere and get to know some of the other Elation Community Voice family before you decide if you want to join permanently.
- Do I have to audition?
Yes, but only after you have decided you like it and this is very informal. You can sing with a small group and it’s ever so easy. Firstly, all you need to do is come along and find out if it's your thing. You have no obligation to come back again and become a member but we find that most people enjoy themselves and choose to keep returning.
- Do I need any experience?
No, none at all. Not even if you haven’t sung since childhood.
- Do I have to be able to read music?
No, our songs are taught by ear and you will have access to the music and words on line and be able to buy a copy of the music score.
- What kind of music do you sing?
We sing a wide range of songs by artists including Adele, Elton John, Sam Smith, Sting, Motown and Beatle Medleys, Gospel and Show Stoppers. See our examples of concert repertoires.
- Do I need to know what kind of voice I have?
No, we sing in 4-part harmony and you can try different parts until you find a pitch that suits your voice best.
- Does the choir perform to the public?
Yes, we normally perform around 3 times as year- Spring, Summer and Christmas and local events such as Buckby feast. In 2015 we performed at a wedding.
- How many are there in the choir?
We have around 50 regular members with many more dropping in now and again.
- How much does Elation Community Voice Choir cost?
Members pay £2 per week on the door. We also sell the music to all members at the subsidised price of £10 per season. There is a hardship fund available to support choir members; please speak to Nathan Toseland or Lesley Saillet in confidence to access this.
